The Classic Horror Campaign is very excited to bring you some fantastic news direct from the Bram Stoker International Film Festival taking place in Whitby, North Yorkshire from 24th – 27th October. Not only is this going to be the biggest genre film festival in the UK this year featuring numerous world and UK premieres of the very best new horror films from around the world but there will also be a separate screening room devoted entirely to classic sci-fi and horror B-movies! Life president of the festival, Sultan Saeed Al Darmaki will be bringing you the Sultan’s Sci-Fi Suite dedicated to the best (and worst!) monster movies and creature features from yesteryear.

In the build-up to the Bram Stoker International Film Festival the Classic Horror Campaign will be bringing you regular news and previews of the classic films that Sultan and his crew will be bringing you throughout the festival starting with two giant ant invasions – THEM! and Empire of the Ants! And that’s not all – Space Monsters Magazine will also be there covering the event so you’ll be able to buy copies of issue one and two direct from editor Cyberschizoid! Issue one features both THEM! (1954) and Empire of the Ants (1977) as well as a look at the Top 10 Giant Bug Movies!

THEM! (1954) is the ultimate classic monster flick featuring giant insects. Created by atomic radiation, the giant ants in this movie are a masterpiece of fifties special effects and the black and white photography lends the film an effective atmosphere of menace and foreboding. Directed by Gordon Douglas and starring Edmund Gwenn, James Whitmore, James Arness and Joan Weldon this is one classic sci-fi movie that mustn’t be missed!

Empire of the Ants (1977) stars Joan Collins and Robert Lansing in a much cheesier production loosely based on a story by H.G. Wells. As Trever Talbert says in issue one of Space Monsters Magazine “the late 70′s ambience is as thick as the smell of Hai Karate as bell bottoms face off against mutant picnic pests in the tropical swamps!”
